In March 13, 2015, a 'overloaded' ferry, Aung-Da-Gon 3, sank off with more than 300 passengers on board after leaving the town of Kyaukphyu on its way to Sittwe in western Rakhine state. And 169 passengers were rescued and alive, and 69 dead bodies were found up to March 16, 2015. Many people are still missing.

The ferry left Taunggup on March 12, and arrived at Kyaukphyu in 13 March, and then left Kyaukphyu around at 4 pm to Sittwe. On that day, (13 March 2015) the ferry sank off near Nga-pa-thon Island (ငပသုန္ကၽြန္း) and Myauk-khrein Island (ေမ်ာက္ႀကိမ္ကၽြန္း) about at 8 pm.
